Additional Folk Singer Information

Muddy Waters started out playing acoustic blues in the Delta, and it shows on this return to his roots, designed to appeal to the mid-1960s surge of interest in folk music. The back of the CD includes a photo of Waters with bassist and songwriter Willie Dixon, as well as a very young Buddy Guy, gathered around a single microphone. This particular CD reissue includes five bonus tracks, among which are "The Same Thing" and "Short Dress Woman," which take advantage of the longer CD running time. All of the other reasons to hear this one remain--Waters's strong, confident voice, the relaxed smoothness of the material, and the surprisingly clean recording, made even cleaner by the digital remastering. --Genevieve Williams

What Customers Say About Folk Singer:

This cd permanently resides in my player. Absolutely the best Muddy album I've heard. Dixon's stand-up bass sounds amazing, as does Buddy Guy's guitar.Muddy really shows his smoothness & coolness on this album.

And the music ain't bad, either. Detail like you wouldn't believe. The dynamic range of this recording will make you jump out of your chair.

Not technically, anyway. It doesn't make the DVD-A indicator light up on my deck, in other words. That out of the way.this is an incredible mastering job. First off, this isn't really a DVD-Audio disc.

I don't have the LP to compare it to, but I can't imagine it being much better. :)I got lucky as hell and found this for 7 bucks in a local shop not long ago. It should play on all DVD players.

It's DVD audio but it's not DVD-Audio, if you get my drift.

waking the folk generation up to there roots. It says folk singer, but it is straight blues. this is a must own. need I say more. Muddy Waters style. This is Muddy's attempt to cash in on the folk craze but he didn't sell out his music he just put a trendy title on it.

Here he handles a nice assortment of traditional and Chicago blues numbers. We often forget that many of the postwar Chicago musicians were country people who were raised on Mississippi farms. Most people who are familiar with Muddy Waters know him as an electric urban blues artist. The singing is strong and the playing is appropriate to the roots style. Muddy Waters shows here that he never forgot his roots. But he recorded acoustic blues on Stovall's Plantation several years before heading for Chicago. This album is an acoustic recording that takes Muddy back to his pre-electric years.

Ain't nobody who can come near these deeply felt waters. If you're just coming across Muddy for the first time, or you're venturing into his back catalog, this is clearly one of Muddy's all time great recordings. Along with the Newport Festival live set, and Muddy Sings Big Bill, you can't find any finer blues from this era.
